How it works
stacks is a launchpad for pump.fun tokens, called bills, that trade against $STACKS. This guide explains how quotes, reserves, trades, and graduation work.
A bill is a pump.fun token with a quote asset: the token on the other side of its market. The starting point for a stack is a bill quoted in $STACKS, rather than SOL. Its denomination also sets the creator-fee tier shown at launch.
That pairing changes the route a trader takes; it does not make the token a claim on a dollar, a redeemable banknote, or a promise of value. A bill is a token that trades against its quote asset.
A buy or sell follows the quote route above, one market at a time. Before graduation, swaps execute through pump.fun; after migration, they execute on PumpSwap. Your wallet signs the transaction.
Each hop uses the liquidity available for its pair. Prices and the amount received can change with trading activity. Review the quoted output and slippage settings before signing.
Each coin has its own quote reserve. For a bill paired with $STACKS, that reserve is held in $STACKS for that bill’s market—not in one shared pool for every bill. A buy adds quote tokens to that market’s reserve; a sell draws quote tokens from it. The reserve changes as trades happen.
These assets are market reserves, not permanently locked funds. Their availability and value depend on the market, its liquidity, and the trade being made. A reserve is not a guarantee that a seller can exit at a particular price, and trading is not risk-free.
Liquidity is not guaranteed. A thin market may not have enough liquidity for the amount you want to swap. Trades can have slippage, and a reserve does not guarantee a particular exit price.
A new bill can use another bill as its quote asset. For example, if Bill B is quoted in Bill A, then buying Bill B with SOL routes through the quote chain: SOL → $STACKS → Bill A → Bill B. Selling follows the same chain backwards.
Each bill in that chain has its own market and quote reserve. A trade at the top therefore depends on the route through every pair below it; it does not draw from one universal reserve. pump.fun limits the supported depth, and the launch form offers valid pair choices.
Before graduation, the bill trades on its pump.fun bonding curve. When it graduates, pump.fun migrates the market to PumpSwap. Graduation is a market transition—not a promise about a bill’s future price, liquidity, or ability to sell.
After migration, trades use the PumpSwap market. The bill’s quote relationship remains part of its route, but execution happens in the market venue that applies at that stage.
When you launch, stacks assembles the transaction using pump.fun’s SDK and requests your wallet’s signature. The signed transaction is submitted to Solana through the configured RPC. stacks does not receive your private keys or custody the funds used to launch.
As with any on-chain transaction, review what your wallet asks you to sign and make sure you understand the fees and token details. The interface helps prepare the transaction; it does not remove market, execution, or network risk.
The denomination selection corresponds to a creator-fee rate. Fees are handled through pump.fun’s fee mechanism, and the launch selection sets whether the configured recipient is the creator or holders. Confirm the current details in the launch form and transaction before signing.
